Annoying narrow tubes keep getting clogged
Suction on this is ok…but the problem is that the tubes are too narrow on this shopvac. I have to constantly stop the vac to figure out which section of the tube has material stuck in it to clear out. Very frustrating since I only use it to clear things in the gararge and patio. Plus, the connector for tubing into the vac bag has a bend in it that also further adds to the clog problem. An additional frustration is that the filter is a bit hard to find for this specific unit. So now, I must find another shopvac with wider diameter tubing so that it can better serve its purpose as intended…as a shopvac.

Good Little Vac for Houshold Use
This vacuum delivers the suction of a larger shop vac in a compact size. It’s light and easy to carry. My house is all ceramic tile and I have a dog that sheds like crazy. I have to vacuum everyday just to keep up. This vac is quieter that it’s larger cousins. The hose diameter is smaller than the 6gal that I am replacing so it probably wouldn’t be good for garage cleanup unless it’s only dirt and sawdust.

The attachments are NOT on board and that would be nice so they aren’t floating around in my closet. The canister is nice and small for easy storage. I actually purchased this at Walmart for $55.97 which is much cheaper than the amazon listed price.

Just What I Wanted
I live and craft in the country and need a heavy-duty vacuum but have arthritis and CMP so have pain issues with the heavy or unwieldy. This little gem is easy to use, powerful enough to pick up everything from pea gravel to fine sawdust, and light enough to lift on my worst pain days. Comes with every attachment and filter one could wish for, except a beater head for carpets, and doesn’t like to be run for more than 10 or 15 minutes at a time. So, if you plan on vacuuming your entire house after you do your workspace, you may have to take a couple of short breaks. How awful! (not!) Am really pleased with this, much more so than with my previous vac, a major name brand upright that cost 3 or 4 times as much.

Just not very happy with it
I bought this vacuum over a year ago because I wanted a quiet, powerful vacuum and was willing to pay more than the price of the various ones available at Lowes, etc. Well, it is relatively quiet, but my household vacuum has better suction. Additionally, the lack of standard types of hose end fittings is disappointing, and there’s no place to conveniently wind either the power cord or the very long hose.

PC 7812 - Impressive Power
I’ve only had limited use of the PC 7812 so far. I recently bought a house and I promised myself I’d get a *real* shop vac. Not a garage sale canister vac, not a $75 big box specail, but a proper shop vac made to be used in a real shop!

I’ve had two incidence where I needed the PC 7812. The first was just your basic “clean up the mess I made after drilling lots of holes” and the vac worked perfectly…but also reminded me that it didn’t come with any attachements (extra expense for that kit). I could have used a small brush to help with the cleanup…much like the nice one that came with my Dyson (that I promised my fiance I wouldn’t use as a shop vac…though it’s *very* tempting). The second incident involved a large pet water fountain that holds about a gallon of water, and was plugged up and overflowing due to cat fur stuck in the intake. I quickly grabbed the PC 7812 and poked at the carpeting and it seemed to be doing it’s job, but it wasn’t until I poked the hose into the fountain to suck up water and cat fur that I really saw the power of the Porter Cable. I swear, this little box sucked up a half gallon of water as quickly as gravity could pull the hose to the bottom of the fountain! It was EMPTY in seconds! I looked over at my fiance who laughed at the magic trick I just did, making a half gallon of water almost instantly dissapear.

So I’m impressed with the power, and cleanup was easy…but for the price I’m dissapointed that it comes without an attachment kit.

Quiet, Compact, Well Designed, OK suction, Wimpy Hose, No Nozzles
I’m glad I replaced my $99 Craftsman “6.0 peak horsepower” shop vac with this ($230 on sale) vac. The Porter Cable 7812 is much quieter, much less clumsy to wheel around, stores in half the space, has a filter-clearing gizmo, and other nice features. I replaced the flimsy 1-1/4 inch ID hose with a commercial grade 1-1/2″ hose, and made adapters to fit standard 2″ ID nozzles. The suction is good for most shop clean-up tasks, but noticeably less than the crazed suction power of the Craftsman 6HP.

Size: It is NOT 23-1/2″ high as stated in the specs. It is 20-3/4″ high. Width is 14-1/2″. Length is about 20″ plus at least 8″ for protruding hose.

Suction: This unit is 9.0 amps versus 11.4 amps for my Craftsman “6.0 peak horsepower” vac. (Don’t compare the stated 1.5 horsepower of this unit with the grossly inflated “Peak Horsepower” claimed by other shop vacs.) I’d say the suction and air volume are at least 25% less on the Porter Cable, but adequate for most tasks. The filter clearing gizmo helps maintain suction. Maybe it’s nice that your loose fitting sweatshirt is not suddenly pulled 9″ up the vacuum hose. On the other hand, when I am using a large nozzle to vacuum sawdust off my driveway, it takes just a bit longer.

Noise: It’s not crazy quiet, but it’s much quieter than my Craftsman 6HP shop vac. It’s noisier than my (pretty quiet) Kenmore indoor canister vac, but it’s not a grating sound and you won’t feel like wearing ear protection.

Bags & Filters: I can’t see spending $100 a year for bags (over $4 each) so I use the filter only. A filter cleaning gizmo dislodges crud when you pull a tab on the outside of the vac. I use this all the time. I hope it won’t wear holes in the filter. Other vacs don’t get de-clogged till they’ve lost 80% of their suction because it’s too much mess and hassle. The top-mounted flat filter is more convenient than the cylindrical filters on most shop vacs.

Hose Replacement & Tools: The flimsy 1-1/4″ ID hose provided is perfect for hooking to your belt sander or other hand-held power tools. A larger commercial grade hose is better for vacuuming floors, etc. Less air resistance. Less insult to your manhood. You’ll need to track it down (get it with swivel cuffs), find or make adapters, and work out misc issues. (I used 1-1/2″ ID hose. 20% more diameter means 44% better throughput. 1-1/2″ PVC couplings (from the plumbing or electrical aisle) fit nicely. Some rubbery PVC tape from the plumbing dept will pad out the couplings to fit standard large (2″ ID) shop vac tools available at Home Depot. 1-1/2″ female threaded PVC couplings fit the 1-1/2″ swivel cuffs nicely.)

Hose Diameter Confusion: If you are putting together a 3rd party hose & tool solution, beware that advertised info on diameters of hoses and adapters is often absent or misleading. This unit comes with 1-1/4″ ID (Inside diameter) hose. The OD (outside diameter) is 1.56″. The tapered cuff is about 1.39″ at the midpoint. For so-called 2-1/2 inch hose that is standard for larger shop vacs, the inside diameter is 2″ and tapered interconnects are about 2.275″ at the midpoint. For 1-1/2″ ID hose, the OD is 1.91″ and the tapered cuffs are about 1.79″ at the midpoint.

Power Tool Outlet - Trigger: Seems nicely designed. The owner’s manual has loads of electrical precaution boilerplate but avoids the one thing you’d like to know: How many amps can you draw from the tool-trigger outlet? Theoretically, 15 amps minus 9 amps consumed by the vacuum = 6 amps. You might get away with more, but I don’t think you’ll be using this outlet with your table saw.

Transport: Very easy to wheel around and carry. 7″ rear wheels with small front swivel-casters are the perfect design. Easily carried with top handle as the vac is only 14-1/2″ wide. You’ll suddenly realize how much you hate your traditional shop vac with the 4 protruding swivel-casters.

Other: The beefy 22.5 foot cord is water resistant 3×14ga. with 3 solid prongs. This vac feels like quality. The head is assembled with stainless steel screws, for example.

THE BEST INVENTION IN THE WORLD!!!!
I cannot say enough good things about this little contraption. I have 3 other variations of sweepers, moppers, and this one takes the cake! I am contemplating buying another because I’ll be sooooo sad when this one kicks the bucket!!! Awesome and easy to use, holds a long charge(weeks) and so easy to refill!!!! YEAH TO BISSELL!!!

Dry vac side is good - wet mop side is not
The mop leaked all over the place. I went to Bissell’s web site for help and was able to find some instructions about making sure that tubes were secure, etc. I was glad to find help, but I wish the mop wouldn’t leak. Also, after you dry vac, you need to change the pad otherwise you are spreading dirt from the dry vac pad all over your floor. I wouldn;t recommend this product if you are looking for a mop. But if you just need a floor vac, this works well. It holds a charge for 10 or 15 minutes which allows me to vacuum the floors several times per week. ANd it has good suction.

Great Product!
I purchased this for my pergo floors. I have 2 young kids and spills happen all the time! It’s great to mop up spills and vacuum crumbs. I keep it charged in my kitchen and it’s always ready to go. I read other reviews that say it leaks, mine hasn’t yet. I have owned it for about 2 weeks. I keep the mop solution in it and ready to go. I recommend this to anyone.

DESIGN FLAWS ABOUND
Very powerful, picks up everything, even tools. However it has several design flaws. Could not have been designed by a user. Worst is instead of having the exhaust go up, they designed it to blow down, toward whatever you are trying to vacuum, so it blows the dust everywhere. Cord should have auto rewind. Hose should have handle(it is fat and hard to hold). Hose bends cutting off air flow whenever you vacuum close. Wheels stick out from body and catch on everything in its way. No brush provided with accessories. Don’t use the bag if you are going to vacuum even the slightest damp stuff. Will break and you will have dust everywhere. Would be nice if hose was one or two feet longer. They advertise that the hose screws in and you can pull the vacuum by the hose. Hah! Half the time, the hose pulls out and you have to put it back together. A great idea with lousy execution.

WOW! Better than Expected.
I am extremely pleased with the service, delivery and the ShopVac has already paid for itself in savings. I am delighted that the shop vac has such power and the attachments are wonderful. If there has to be something wrong it would be with the on/off switch begin push button and it would be better if it were a toggle. This product exceeds expectations and far out-performs the Rigid alternate.

In use for 6 years, comments also on using with Festool
I bought the Fein to replace an old Craftsman shop-vac that was as loud as the deck of an aircraft carrier. Instant improvement, with the first discovery being that you will actually use a vac all the time if it’s not too loud! The Fein has several endearing features: it’s light, it’s quiet, it’s relatively hard to tip over, it has a long cord, and the cord stores on the body (by wrapping it around the top groove). I don’t understand some reviewers’ comments on the strength of the suction. These vacs do not have anything close to the level of suction developed by the cheaper and louder vacs. In fact, if they did, they would be a lot harder to use attached to tools like sanders. There is plenty of suction for any reasonable use, though.

I’ve never bought the wet-vac parts for the Fein and never used the vac with a bag. I just dump out the contents into a trash bag. Moreover, I’ve never replaced the filter and am careful when cleaning it - I don’t over-clean the filter, and I’m careful not to damage it. A well-used filter with a reasonable amount of filter cake built up on it is very efficient, typically yielding much better filtration than the nominal micron rating listed. Among other things, I find I can use mine for drywall and for cleaning out my pellet stove without dust or soot escaping from the vac, though I’d buy a purpose-built vac if those were my primary uses. (Don’t try this with a new filter!)

I agree with other reviewers’ comments on the hose and attachment parts. They are lightweight and shouldn’t be abused.

The bottom line on my review goes back to the starting comment. I found that quiet overwhelms every other consideration. Having a quiet vac turns it into something you use as you work instead of an end-of-day chore.

Don’t be oversold on the hyped superiority of Festool vacs for their tools. While they are excellent vacs (I own one in addition to a Fein Turbo II) with tons of features, strictly from a vacuuming standpoint they don’t offer any better performance than the Fein - and that includes any supposed advantage of the Festool vac’s variable speed.

The one use for which I prefer the Festool vac is for sanding. But that’s because I have a Festool vac with a HEPA filter, and I do not have the HEPA filter for my Fein. There is also one really good reason to prefer the Fein vac over Festool, and that’s the exorbitant cost of Festool bags! Unlike sanding dust, chips from a tool like the Festool Domino will fill a bag in a hurry. Do yourself a favor and attach the Domino to your Fein instead!

The Fein stepped rubber adapter can be trimmed to fit any Festool power tool and will store nicely in the Systainer. It is as flexible as the end of the Festool hose, so will adapt to either the round or oval dust outlets on Festool tools. You can get the adapter from Amazon or from Woodcraft.

The vacuum is powerful and compact. I felt ripped off when the price ended up not including the hoses and attachments. I had to spend an extra $150 or there abouts for the extras.

Quality product
I bought this vac for drywall dust for a large project. I used it with the HEPA filter. After filling up a few bags with drywall dust the vacuum gave up and made a ton of noise. I got it serviced for free under warranty. I did not replace the HEPA filter after each bag change which was a mistake. I recommend that users replace the filter after every bag change if you’re using it for drywall dust. I switched to the 1 micron filters for this purpose and have found that they work great, even for drywall dust. Hope this is helpful.

The first question to ask yourself when you’re buying a wet-dry vac is, How much power/capacity do I really need? The night we moved in to our new house, a freak hailstorm flooded our basement. I borrowed my father-in-law’s industrial-sized vacuum to clean up the mess, and it was just too big to maneuver in my basement and I almost broke my back lugging the eight-gallon tank up the stairs to empty it out.

For most home applications, I think three-five gallons is about right, so this six-gallon model would be appropriate if you anticipate the need for more capacity but don’t feel like you need the extra power of a four-HP or better model. Even with the slightly higher capacity, it’s still small enough to be maneuverable in cramped quarters.

The Quiet-Deluxe series, as the name suggests, are very quiet indeed, which makes this a good choice for home use. It has a blower feature for use in the yard, and comes with a selection of useful accessories. My one complaint about this model is that the hose was a little narrow, especially where it enters the vacuum. While I never had a problem with clogging, it seemed like this could be an issue depending on what you’re trying to clean up.

Other than that, this is a great little vacuum with enough power and capacity for most home or small-business applications.–Josh Dettweiler

had to replace just out of warrenty
My Shop Vac lasted just long enough, with occasional use only and not abused, to be out of warranty when it died. Went and replaced it with a RIGID, which has a lifetime warranty. The difference in operation and quality is obvious when you use both. Buyer beware.

Disappointing
The hose on this model is a much smaller diameter than the larger Shop-Vacs, and often clogs at the worst possible spots. The wheels falling off was also a pain–until I screwed them to the base. The biggest problem, however, is that after a few months the filter will not stay in place, and dust spews out all over the place. I’m currently looking for a bigger/better model.

Dust blower
The filter design on the vacuum is defective. It consists of a sheet of filter paper which you drape over a cylinder and secure by sliding a big o-ring collar over it.

No matter how good you slide the ring on, it is only a matter of time until the ring slides off. When this happens, you’ll know, as the vacuum spurts out an amazing amount of dust. We used this vacuum for about a year during many home renovation projects and I can’t count how many times it has blown dust all over our house. We even got into the habit of checking the filter before every time we turned on, but it still happens some times.

It just happened again: dust blown all over my kitchen.

This puppy is getting sold for pennies on the dollar on craigslist and I’m going out to buy another. What a cheap product destined for the landfill.

Want-a-Clean Car
I puchased this vacuum to use in my garage both for general clean-up and to vacuum my cars. The vacuum power is great and the storage capacity is good. I am a little disappointed in the fact that all of the tools/accesories that come with the unit can not be put on the accesory rack that comes with it to attach to the wall. I would be nice if Shop Vac would come up with an accessory holder that holds all of the tools at one time, and in such a way as to allow the user to take a tool without having to take the whole thing apart in order to get what you want to use. In addition, they put the hose mount on the canister right in front of the unit. In addition to the thickness of the wall mount and the canister, with the hose attached to the unit, it sticks out from the wall about 20 inches. This is OK if you have a garage with a large space between the automobile you park in it and the wall where the unit is attached to. In my case, there is only about 36 inches between the wall and the car side, which does not allow me to put the unit on that wall without bumping into it in the way all the time when you have to pass by. Perhaps Shop Vac could also consider having the hose come from the side of the unit instead of directly in front of the unit. This would solve the problem entirely. Otherwise it is a powerful good vacuum.

It is nice getting the shop vac off of the floor and up on the wall so I am not tripping over it in the garage. The hose is very long.

Convenient, but loud and hose is prone to clogging
I’ve had this little vacuum for 4 years now, and it has been up on the garage wall for 2. I use it mostly to clean up the sawdust around the miter saw. It does a great job with that. The convenience of having it out of the way and up on a wall cannot be overstated. But it is loud (I use ear protection when it’s running!), and the hose does clog often when e.g. I am vacuuming bigger things such as leaves, pieces of paper.

WOW! What a “sucker”!
Bet I got your attention with my title!

This 4HP wet/dry vac is amazing. It has excellent+ pick up power.
It’s large but those littler ones would have to be emptied all the time. This is just as advertised. It is no louder than my regular vacuum cleaner.

I could suck up a pretty major spill if I had too with this.

Highly recommend.

NOT DESIGNED BY USERS
It is very powerful, sometimes to powerful. It picks up everything, a plus. Some poor design makes it a pain. Wheels stick out and catch on everything in the shop. Follows like a reluctant cat rather than a happy dog. Hose is too short and bends closed at the nozzle when you vacuum close or at the wrong angle. I had to duct tape it to stop it from bending. Hard to empty without using the bag. Bags are costly and if you pick up something by mistake you need to tear the bag open to find it. The hose is very fat and needs a handle to hold. Not too hard to figure out if you use it. Rockler did it, why not shop vac? Would have been nice if they had an automatic rewind for the cord. Also would have been nice to have a brush pickup. I would have paid more if these items were included.

Excellent Wet-Dry Vac, HIGHLY Recommend!!!!!!!
I AM a neat-freak and like to keep my garage and covered screened porch neat and clean. Much more powerful than I expected! I had a significantly larger Shop-Vac but after a couple of years found it to be too large to manage, very inconvenient in that it was too big around and too heavy. This is just right (for large jobs also). Bought the filter bags in addition to the round filters and they are well worth the money. People that complain about the noise- ALL wet dry vacs are noisy, a fact of life, this one has less noise than larger ones and they are what they are- wet dry vacs (NOT for indoor-carpet use!!) so noise is to be expected, period. I would recommend this to anyone and would buy this as a gift. I keep the smaller 6 gallon on my screen porch (lots of plants, tropical that drop leaves, use the filter bags for this size also, again-well worth the money and extend the life of your main filters, makes it easy to dump dust and debris) and these two combined take care of everything I need here. This is powerful, reasonably quiet, easy to pull and move around-just right even for a large garage like mine.

Great handy little product
Great multifunctional good sized product. The suction is good, but not great compared to my Hoover Upright bagged vacuum.

The missing star is really for my personal dislike of having to vacuum all the time.

Better than traditional vacs for hardwood floors
We love this vacuum. We have a really large one too that we were using to vacuum our floors but we thought this one would be more convenient, and it is. It works great and it is easier to carry or drag around than a big shop vac. It has more than enough power to vacuum the floors and rugs in our house and we put the big one back in the shop.

Most upright vacuums have gotten so big and clumsy and are really only good for carpet. This vac is sooo much easier on hardwood, tile, and rugs (not carpet). You can get under furniture so much better. This vac is so much more flexible, with attachments and all, it can perform so many more functions.

An added perk is that I noticed my cats aren’t afraid of it because it is quieter than the big one. So I tried to vacuum my cat and he loves it. I just bought a grooming attachment and now I have so much less cat hair around it’s awesome.

And we haven’t had any issues with the on/off button that I’ve seen mentioned in some other comments. Maybe we just got lucky or they improved it.

Great Company
Didn’t buy this exact unit, but I want to post a good word about this Company. I burned out the motor unit accidentally (my fault) in my Shop-Vac 10-gallon wet/dry vacuum a while back during a cleaning job. The unit was still under warranty. I wrote an on-line service request with a thorough description of what happened and received an email reply within a day or two stating a replacement motor assembly had been shipped! No hassles whatsoever and the part even came with installation instructions. Took maybe 20-minutes to install and I didn’t have to return the old part.

Very refreshing to find a company these days that provides great, prompt customer service. I will be a faithful Shop-Vac customer from now on and highly recommend their products.

8.0 All Around Shop Vacuum
I love the All Around Vacuum. I have purchsed two in the past years. The last two that I incouranged neighbors to purchase have defective cords. The cords kink and makes it very hard to wind up the cord.

My question? I need to purchase the vacuum hose only as my is broke. Is this possible?

Great for bare floors
We live with two 70+ pound dogs that shed about 13 months of the year. So, we’ve gotten rid of any carpet in our house and gone with laminate flooring throughout. My wife has tried Oreck, Shark, and Eureka vacuums and found them lacking (Oreck was too expensive to maintain, the others were too messy to clean).

Based on our experience in my workroom and garage, we tried this small ShopVac for less than $50. We are pleased with the results. It picks up all of the dog hair, slides around easily, and gets under furniture easily. Also, the bags are easy to change and last almost two weeks with daily vacuuming. Finally, it is light enough ( about five pounds ) to carry up and down while doing the stairs.

True, it does not have a HEPA filter, but the bags seem to trap most of the dust in our house. And it does not have on-board storage for additonal tools, but that would just be extra weight that we’d be carrying around.

Nice little vacuum
Perfect when you want to clean up a smaller mess without have to deal with a huge vacuum. If you dealing with bigger messes, you’ll need to go with a bigger unit.
